Action News Now producer Alejandro Mejia Mejia shared his excitement about gifting, especially as he celebrates his first Christmas with his wife as a married couple. “I’m excited to give gifts to my secret Santa and also my wife; it’s our first Christmas together as a married couple,” Mejia Mejia said.The whole team at Action News Now is busy with their holiday shopping, aiming to bring joy to others. Producer Connor McPherson reflected on the reactions people have to gifts. “From the reaction; you can tell when someone didn’t like their gift but they’re trying to play it off,” McPherson said.Reporter Emilio Del Carpio enjoys the act of giving and the happiness it brings. “I get to see their reaction, brighten their day, makes me feel good,” said Del Carpio.Behavioral science expert and author of the book “Neurogiving”, Cherian Koshy, explained the tangible benefits of giving. “The consumer brain is different from the generous brain and if you want to boost dopamine, get healthier, if you want to lower blood pressure and reduce stress one of the best things you can do is to be generous to other people,” Koshy said.Producer Kristen Paul shared her love for secret Santa, especially with her five sisters, even if it sometimes means going overboard. “I have 5 sisters so I love giving secret Santa it’s my favorite part… we have a limit and I buy too much because I just love it,” Paul said.Beyond monetary gifts, Koshy emphasized the importance of giving time, especially for combating social isolation and loneliness. “Absolutely, one of the best things we can do when it comes to social isolation and loneliness is to give of our time,” Koshy said.For those looking to give back, the Community Foundation of the North State serves as a central hub for local non-profits.
