Wellness destination slated for former Lowe's Foods site

A former Lowe’s Foods grocery store is set to become a wellness destination that will include a medspa, fitness training center, cafe and coworking space.

Called Wave Wellness, the proposed facility will offer a range of wellness services, including medical aesthetics, longevity medicine, fitness, recovery, beauty, nutrition and human performance, according to a news release. The Wilmington property will serve as a flagship location for the brand, which could eventually have five or six additional locations nationwide, said the company’s CEO Andrew Krichman.

“Wave Wellness introduces a new approach to proactive healthcare in coastal North Carolina – bringing together physician-guided medicine, advanced aesthetic treatments, movement, recovery, nutrition, and performance optimization through a coordinated continuum of care,” the release stated.

“Designed around the belief that lasting wellbeing requires attention to every aspect of health, Wave Wellness will offer members a personalized experience focused on helping them feel their best, perform at their highest level and live with vitality.”

Wave Wellness Real Estate LLC purchased the 46,000-square-foot building at 805 Pine Grove Drive for $7.5 million, according to a deed recorded on July 24. The entity purchased the building from Golden Ventures III LLC, which acquired the site last November for $5 million.

Steve Hall, vice president with Blue Coast Commercial, represented the buyers in the transaction, while Eian Lundy, executive vice president with Blue Coast Commercial, represented the sellers.

According to the release, the new owners expect to invest $8.5 million in the property to create the full-service wellness facility. Krichman said the owners are working with Monteith Construction on the building’s upfit, which is expected to be completed by December.

Krichman said the Wave Wellness group includes Whitney Smith, who will serve as the firm’s COO and is an owner of Wave Aesthetics, a Wilmington medical aesthetics practice. As part of the new facility, the firm will continue offering injectables, skin rejuvenation, body contouring, laser treatments and medical-grade skincare, along with broadening its clinical offerings to include longevity medicine, hormone optimization, medical weight management, peptide therapies, IV nutrient therapy and comprehensive health optimization. Other partners in the group include Tyler Smith, who will serve as chief growth officer; Danny McPherson, the company’s CFO; and Jill Enloe-Hamill, chief marketing officer.

Wave Wellness members will have access to a longevity clinic, strength and cardio equipment, yoga and Pilates studios, sauna and steam suites, hot and cold contrast therapy, red light therapy, personalized nutrition coaching, advanced recovery services, as well as a professional co-working space.

It will also include a culinary wellness café alongside a full bar, dedicated beauty services, such as hair and nail care, private bridal suites and a childcare area.

According to the release, the campus will introduce Wave Performance, a specialized athletic development program designed to support youth, high school, collegiate and professional athletes, while also serving adults seeking greater strength, improved mobility and lifelong physical resilience.

Founding memberships will be released for sale on Monday, with limited memberships available to “preserve the personalized attention, exceptional service, and elevated experience that defines Wave Wellness.”
