Product Review: The Riley by The People’s MOVMT

On a mission to find a shoe that was sophisticated enough to wear to work, yet casual enough to wear on the weekends, I discovered The Riley oxford from MOVMT. The ultimate unisex retro dress shoe, The Riley is designed with an elastic tongue, making it either a laceless slip-on or a laced oxford.

I also discovered that the company called, The People’s MOVMT, donates to a positive cause for each shoe purchase. The People’s Movements’ slogan is to create stylish, eco-conscious footwear and accessories that stand for the fight against single-use plastics. They use organic, eco-conscious materials and up-cycled plastic bags cleaned from Bali and California. A portion of sales are contributed to 5 Gyres, a non-profit that enables systematic reduction of plastics through oceanic research, collaboration and action.

The People’s Movement was born from the desire to create wearable goods for friends that reflected their shared fervor for timeless design, travel and the environment. The company admits that they are driven by less work, so they can have more time to surf and be the positive change they would like to see in the world. Much like TOMS, this shoe company has a positive spin to help you feel better about your purchase, but in this case the shoe might actually last. I was so impressed with my Riley’s that it might be time to switch out my nike trail runners for the Cochise Joggers!

You can find MOVMT shoes available at Free People, Nordstrom and the Gap!
