Pre-Fall Style Guide

There are more designers and brands participating in pre-fall than ever before, and this season, there was a definite shift toward looser, baggier, and odder forms than what’s been occupying stores lately.

For the change-averse, this is bad news. Skinny jeans fans, fit-and-flare fans, and health-goth fans may be disappointed with the upcoming fall trends. But, for anyone whose soul belongs in the ’70s, this is your season. We’ve picked out the top looks that stood out among the pack; so you can start making some space in your closet.

Leather

Did you miss leather these last few seasons? Fear not; your favorite is back, black and badder than ever. Choose butter-soft, or go as shiny as you dare with power-patent.

The Romantic

The biggest news for Autumn is a long and wistful silhouette, with arts and crafts details that wouldn’t look out of place in a Klimt painting. Dare not to bare now, before everyone else catches on.

The Nomad

Looking like you’ve travelled the world is key this season – even if you’ve really just loaded up your basket with the season’s best.

Flare

That favorite seventies silhouette will be kicking everything into shape once again next season – from culottes to looser fitting trousers, if it’s not flared this season, don’t even bother.

Fishnets

Fishnets come out of the costume drawer and make a big impact under otherwise sensible separates, like at Alexander Wang show.
