History in Fashion: Overalls

Love them or hate them, overalls are back in trend this season and we wanted to find out what inspired this trend.

Quick History

The very first overall was often referred to as slops and was created in the 1700s. They were reserved for the working man and were considered a symbol of low class. The first “modern” examples of overalls didn’t show up until the 1830’s. Overalls were a standard uniform in white for painters, pin stripped for railroad workers, and blue shades for the rest of the working class.
