5 Gowns worn by Queen Elizabeth

In celebration of her 90th birthday, the Royal Collection Trust will be showcasing three exhibitions, showing over 150 of her most memorable looks, including ceremonial and military attire as well as wedding and christening outfits.

Below are a few of the clothing items on display that have recently been realized by the Royal Collection Trust.

1957

Evening gown embroidered with sequins, pearls, beads and designed by Norman Hartnell. Apparently, this was a gown worn by the queen herself to a visit to the United States as a guest of Eisenhower.

1960

This silk turquoise gown was worn to Princess Margaret’s wedding and was designed by Norman Hartnell.

1962

Worn at the Royal Lyceum during the state visit of Olav of Norway is a pale silk evening gown designed by Norman Hartnell.

1980

Worn to meet Pope John II at the Vatican was this exquisite black silk velvet dress designed by Ian Thomas.

1997

Worn to the Commonwealth Heads of Government receptions was this beautiful silk gown completely embroidered with beads and sequins using gold thread. This gown was designed by John Anderson.
