Too often in period home lean-tos, the laundry has been afforded prime position at the rear of the house, robbing the interiors of an uninterrupted backyard aspect, and in the case of this Preston house, northern light.
An extensive renovation, rebuild, and extension by Nest Architects has addressed this fundamental flaw, introducing an expansive open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area spanning the rear of the ground floor, and two new bedrooms above.
The laundry and bathroom have been moved close to the centre of the plan, ensuring a logical flow for the stylish appointed interior.
An existing backyard jacaranda provided both inspiration and constraints for the project, designed as a farmhouse-style home in the city.
